XP Antivirus Pro is dangerous

April 27, 2010

You can never remove XP Antivirus Pro 2010 too soon. With the rising number of computers that have been infected, this is a real threat, dealing with it aggressively is not something that should be delayed. It poses as legitimate software but you can’t just uninstall it.

If it were easy to get rid of XP Antivirus Pro, the threat would not have spread the way is has, and as quickly as it has. The virus buries itself deep, and writes itself into several folders in the system registry. The virus itself slows down your PC because it loads itself onto your PC’s memory. Worse, it actively seeks out credit card information, email addresses and other sensitive information, and actually sends it to vested interests.

The scary part is the while it is tough to delete XP Antivirus Pro, you can get infected easily in so many ways:

• Through strangers on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter or other social network sites. Be very careful about who you add as friends, make sure they are people you really know.
• Indiscriminately downloading shareware or freeware programs. Open source software is catching on, the downside is the virus developers know this too, and there is a lot of malicious code out there disguised as legitimate open source software.
• Using software like Limewire and uTorrent to download music, movies and videos. This exposes you to infection from thousands of users.

The first clue you might have that your PC has been infected will be a series of rather annoying and incessant pop -up windows. They will tell you that your data is not safe, that there is in fact a virus on your PC that needs to be dealt with. The call to action will be to download something; doing so will make things much worse for you. Once it is on your system, you can’t just uninstall XP Antivirus Pro.
