Will We See Windows 7 Netbooks in the Future?

May 13, 2009

In case you didn’t know it yet, Microsoft will be releasing Windows 7 in time for the Christmas holidays in 2009. This new operating system takes off from the touch screen and multi-touch features of Microsoft’s Surface Table.

So, if you’re want to convert your netbook into a touch screen tablet, this new Operating System should be on your shopping list (along with a guidebook on how to convert your existing tablet into a touch screen device).

Pre-launch videos of Windows 7 computers shows that you can zoom, flick and pan pictures using only two fingers. There’s also a paint program where you can use your ten fingers for drawing. The most useful program perhaps is the from Microsoft’s Live Maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth, which allow you to zoom in on locations with your fingers.

Of course, Windows 7 still has non-touch screen features and they are similar to what you can find on Windows Vista.

It is not yet known if there are any netbook manufactures who will be shipping models using Windows 7, but with a “brisk evolution” attitude, fans of these mini laptops may just find themselves awed and amazed by a touch screen model. A Windows 7 netbook would have to be powerful enough to run on a high-end operating system. Currently, most models are powered by Intel Atom processors and features that are not really as powerful as desktop PCs.

But with touch economic times, PC buyers may just hold off buying new models until they are comfortable enough in their finances.

Got something to say?
