June 11, 2009

Most of us dream about writing an e-book and make money out of it. And most of us have tried, only to fail miserably; either by not completing the ebooks or the ebooks just not sells well. There must be some reason why some e-book authors outperform others by making millions of sales.

The biggest reason for why this is happening is only one - many people has been tired reading ebooks full of fluff and the value is being drowned by the length of the e-books. Most of e-book authors try to cover everything as a way to give values, but here’s the truth; your value doesn’t surfaced when the ebooks are more than 30 pages long. Why don’t you try to write small reports instead?

A small report is an approximately 7 to 15 pages ebooks that solves the issues of a specific question. Instead of writing about “How to Play Golf Better” that spans more than 30 pages about all the techniques to play golf, why not writing “How to Master the Techniques of Putting”?

Doing this, you’re not going for an untapped niche, but instead, you’re going for a specific target market. Remember, you always sell to human, and niche is just a grouping of human interests. A grouping of human interests is much harder to be sold, especially if it doesn’t tackle a specific question or problem.

So how can you start writing effective, sellable small reports? Here are three steps to do that:

1) Select a target market: Say you’re passionate with weight loss niche. Brainstorm with yourself, what does the biggest problem that people who want to lose weight face? Is it keeping up with their dieting? Or keeping up with their exercise routine? Or not knowing which things worked, and which one isn’t?

Let’s assume that most people don’t know which exercise worked well to tone their stomach (see how specific I go?). Then you might have a target market - people who wanted to tone their stomach into six-pack. How?

That’s how you determine your small report title.

2) Measure interest: To ensure that big bucks coming your way, its better if you know how many people will be running to get your small reports once you published it. This can be done by asking your target market via forums or online chatroom, as an example.

3) Author the report: Well, it’s the hard work itself. Once you’ve determined your target market and the title of your small report; it’s time get to work! Start writing, and avoid all the fluff and get straight to the point. Remember, it’s a small report that shouldn’t be more than 15 pages!

These three steps are the easiest way to follow if you want to sell ebooks and make a lot of money out of it. Instead of writing a 100 pages of ebook, start by writing small reports; the key here is to get started on the right foot!
