INTEL and MICRON. introduce NAND FLASH memory SUB-40

March 26, 2009

Today, Intel Corporation and Micron Technology, Inc. introduce the technology industry sub-40 (less than 40) nanometer (nm) for NAND memory, introduced a 34nm 32 gigabit (Gb) multi-level cell chip. Tekonologi this process was developed jointly by Intel and Micron and manufactured by NAND flash joint venture, IM Flash Technologies (IMFT).

This is the smallest NAND with in market size. 32Gb NAND chip is the smallest single component with the density that can be entered in the standardization of the size of 48-lead thin small-outline package (TSOP), providing cost savings with the data density is higher in pengaplikasian existing. Sample shipment to customers starting in June, and mass production expected in the second half of this year.

“This component provides new 32Gb bit highest storage density available to this industry,” said Brian Shirley, Vice President of Micron Memory Group. “Together with our partners at Intel, we are proud to be a leader in the production process technology.”

“Introduction to 34nm process technology, this gives a focus on the progress IMFT and place them on the front rows of NAND process technology,” said Pete Hazen, director of marketing, Intel NAND Products Group. “Development is offered to add value and accelerate the absorption of the solution solid-state drive (SSD) on the computing platform.”

34nm 32Gb chip will be manufactured on 300 millimeter wafer, which will each produce about 16 terabyte NAND. With the size of 172mm ², less than the size of nail ibujari, 34nm 32Gb chip will provide cost savings that enable the storage media with the solid-state high-density of the device is small.

32Gb one chip can store data more than 2000 digital photos or high-resolution save up to 1000 songs on a music player personal.

8-packs stacked die (cumulative) will double the storage capacity to realize 64 gigabytes (GB), enough to record high-definition video, from eight to 40 hours on a digital camcorder.

34nm 32Gb chip was designed for solid-state drive. This product allows the SSD will be a more cost effective, instantly double the volume of the storage device and the capacity to trigger more than 256GB of standards now, the small device size 1.8 inch. SSD will be the storage media on the new notebook computer, komsumsi provide a lower power, time, boot-up faster, increase realibilitas, improve performance and reduce the noise level compared to hard disk drive. With the innovation of NAND process technology, such as NAND 34nm process, now can offer a range of SSD capacity significantly in accordance with market demand.

Based on the 34nm architecture, Intel and Micron also plan to introduce multi-level cell to a lower density, including single-level product cell, at the end of this year
